Supportive respite accommodation for individuals and their families.
Our name, our philosophy
Inspired by the philosophy of Japanese Bonsai, the Matapouri Blue Totara found on our land, and the deep blue of the lake, our name and place reflect the values we hold dear.
Life isn't always easy—but with strong roots, a sense of direction, and the courage to shape new growth, we believe each person can define their own path and future.
Welcome
At Matapouri Blue, we provide short-term respite accommodation for individuals with additional support needs and their families. We work closely with support agencies and industry partners to deliver safe, calm, and personalised care. This is not a holiday rental or Airbnb — all stays are purposefully designed around wellbeing, support, and meaningful respite.
Please note: Our space is offered as respite accommodation on a part-time basis, so availability is limited and we may not always be able to host guests.
Private, quiet and close to nature.
Our accommodation offers a private, quiet, and safe space where you can truly unwind. Just a 10-minute walk to the lake, our retreat invites you to experience the beauty of nature right on your doorstep.
Immerse yourself in our beautiful Japanese gardens, that separates the guests' private courtyard from the host space. The peaceful surroundings are home to a variety of majestic wildlife, including the elegant blue herons that roam freely in the area. If you're fortunate enough, you might even spot two curious magpies patrolling the grounds early in the morning, adding a touch of magic to your stay.
Our comfortable accommodation is the perfect base to relax and rejuvenate. Whether you're eager to explore the outdoors or prefer to enjoy the serenity of our gardens with a good book, there's something for everyone. If the mood strikes, you're welcome to lend a hand in the gardens—an opportunity to connect with nature and enhance your retreat experience.
Weather: Best in the North Island? Maybe…
Don't let the cooler climate put you off. Anyone who has spent time in the Taupo region, especially Kinloch, will tell you that the air here is truly magical. Every breath revitalizes your senses. Thanks to the dry and calm climate, you won't feel the cold the same way you would in a more humid and windy area. In winter, when the forecast indicates cooler temperatures, it often feels warmer when the sun is out. Kinloch enjoys mostly calm weather, but when conditions change, it adds character to the experience.
Whether you're seeking adventure or simply a quiet space to recharge, our retreat offers the ideal environment for relaxation and rejuvenation.
